The Holy Spirit Pt. 11 - The More Excellent Way Pt 1

We continue our Holy Spirit series with Part 11: The More Excellent Way — Love as the Climate of the Gifts.

As we transition from the fruit of the Spirit into the gifts of the Spirit, Paul reminds us that spiritual gifts are good, needed, and given by God for the building up of the church. But gifts were never meant to operate apart from love.

In 1 Corinthians 12–13, Paul speaks to a gifted church that was spiritually active but deeply immature. His correction is not that they needed less of the Spirit, but that they needed the Spirit to form love in them. Without love, tongues become noise, prophecy becomes nothing, knowledge becomes pride, and even sacrifice can become self-glory - In this message, we look at why the gifts of the Spirit must be carried in the climate of love, and why the fruit of the Spirit is what makes gifted people safe, humble, and Christlike.

The gifts matter - But love is the more excellent way.
